The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Asia qualifier takes place in May in the UAE and the Japan National squad was announced by the Japan Football Association (JFA) on 13 April. Player from many of the local teams supporting the Ecoflag Movement, such as Okinawa's Sol Mar Praia and Kumamoto's FC Esperanza, made it into the squad.
The announcement was made after a 2-day try-out on 14-16 April at Maehama beach, Okinawa
The Ecoflag has been adopted widely among the beach soccer community in Japan since GSA formed a partnership with the Japan Beach Soccer Network (JBSN) in 2002.
According to JSBN Head and Captain of GSA Kyushu and Okinawa, Hiroyuki Ito,
"We hope you'll support the team as we head to Dubai with the Japanese flag in our hearts and the Ecoflag in our minds."
