The 23rd El Tour de Tucson presented by Diamond Ventures took place on 19 November 2005, attracted around 7,000 riders. Organized by the Perimeter Bicycling Association of America (PBAA), the event offers a 109-mile main event, as well as 80-mile, 66-mile, and 35-mile rides. GSA staff were at the event and standing under the Ecoflag, GSA Executive Director, Tatsuo Okada made a speech at the start line of each event.
During the El Tour Bike, Health and Fitness EXPO that runs for 2 days preceding the event, GSA USA set up a booth to hand out Ecoflag stickers and increase environmental awareness among the participants. Dr. Okada also made a speech at the event's dedication dinner on the evening of 17 November.
GSA USA is in the process of achieving NPO status, after which it will begin awareness raising activities from centers in Tucson and Phoenix.
Proceeds from this year's El Tour again went to benefit Tu Nidito Children and Family Services whose mission is to provide individual, family and group support to children and their families as they deal with serious illnesses and death. El Tour expects to raise over 0,000 for Tu Nidito this year.
Other fund-raising efforts include the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the American Parkinson Disease Association.
