GSA celebrated reaching the "one million tennis balls reused" mark at Sanko Primary School in Tokyo, and GSA Executive Director Tatsuo Okada dropped in again for the school's autumn sports day on 26 September.
He took to the stage alongside Principal Sakai to hear a student make the athlete's oath, which states that, "We, who enjoy taking part in sports, promise to challenge ourselves to protect our environment and fulfill our potential in the true spirit of fair play."
Addressing the students, Dr. Okada asked them to remember that our ability to enjoy sports is the result of clean air and water and that flying the Ecoflag should remind us of this.
Sanko Primary also set up a RECYCL'art box in March this year to collect old or unused sports equipment. The program, which is run by IGFY Corporation, in cooperation with Nike Japan, creates art from recycled sports equipment, and art pieces made from equipment donated by Nike athletes were on exhibition at the sports day event.
RECYCL'art is a registered trademark.
